To facilitate various research projects undertaken in our institute, several core facilities have been or are being established. These facilities include:
1, Core Facility for Hormone Detection and Analysis
This facility is jointly supported by the National Centre for Plant Gene Research-Beijing (NCPGR-Beijing) and IGDB，and aims to provide technical support for research groups of IGDB and other institutes. Since it was commissioned in April, 2009, the facility has successfully detected and analyzed several plant hormones for different groups.
2, Core Facility for Plant Transgenics
This facility is essential for discovery of new genes, verification of gene function, and application of useful genes. It provides large-scale transformation of rice, wheat, Arabidopsis, and tobacco et al. for research groups in and out of IGDB .
3, Animal Facility
The total area of Animal Facility is more than 2400 square meters. It is equipped with SPF facilities and licensed for conventional (CV) animals and for SPF facilities for mice & rats by the Beijing Municipal Government. It provides experimental animals as well as related service which include but not limited to animal raising and care (mice, rat, zebrafish, and xenopus laevis), technical assistance such as blood taking, medicine giving. Beyond that the advanced animal technical service include preparation of polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies, embryo splitting and transplantation, production of targeted gene knockout and transgenic animals .
4, Modern Greenhouse
The total area of the new greenhouse is 6859 square meters. The greenhouse provides optimal conditions for different species of plants including rice, wheat, soybean, cotton, Arabidopsis, tobacco, and so on and so forth. The facility is shared by scientists from the Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology, the Institute of Microbiology, and the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research on the campus.
5,Core Facility for In-depth Sequencing and Data Analyzing
The In-depth Sequencing and Data Analyzing facility is still under construction which consists of Genome AnalyzerIIx System, Applied Biosystems 3730 DNA Analyzers and IBM High performance Server. The IBM High performance Server works well since it was approved at the end of 2008. The establishment of the facility is expected to provide strong support for the research of IGDB as well as other institutes in the Northern Suburb Life Sciences Park (NSLSP).
6, Core facility for Metabonomics and Proteomics
This facility is under construction.
7. Core facility for Metabolomics
Profiling large numbers of metabolites (metabolomics) in living organisms provides a high resolution view of the biochemical phenotype and detailed quantitative and qualitative data are highly valuable in gene validation, gene discovery and mechanistic insights. Currently, the IGDB metabolomics facility provides two types of service: targeted- and non-targeted- chemical profiling using mass spectrometry (MS) coupled with advanced separation technologies (UPLC-qqq-MS/MS and UPLC-q-TOF-MS/MS and GC-EI-MS). The IGDB metabolomics facility is also running as a basic research laboratory, mainly focus on the reconstruction and regulation of metabolic networks at molecular level.
There are many instruments owned by IGDB but shared with other Institutes through the Beijing Large Instrument Network for Life Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences. These instruments include:
