Director's Report
2015 is the last year of the National Twelfth Five-Year Plan. It also is an important year for us in the development of the Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology (IGDB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). CAS Laboratory for Seeds Research was approved by the Chinese Academy of Sciences in July. We published 264 papers indexed by SCI. Forty-five patents and six new crop varieties were granted.
I am delighted to see that IGDB scientists continue to receive national recognitions in 2015. Drs. Zhuo Du and Weixiang Guo were enrolled by the National Youth Thousand Talents Program. Drs. Qiang Tu, Lin Ma, Shiqin Wang and Binbin Liu were founded by the Hundred Talents Program of CAS. Drs. Dingzhong Tang and Zhixi Tian were awarded the Distinguished Young Scholar Grant from the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Dr. Yuling Jiao was selected as the National Ten-thousand Talents-Outstanding Young Scholars.
Substantial progresses in both national and international collaborations were made in 2015. The collaborations have been going smoothly since the establishment of the CAS-JIC Center of Excellence in Plant and Microbial Science. Several joint projects were launched and a bilateral symposium was held in 2015. The 3rd Asia-Pacific Drosophila Research Conference, the International Conference of Plant Chromosome Engineering and Functional Genomics for Breeding, the 13rd China Water Forum, and the Sino-German Bilateral Symposium on Development and Maintenance of Brain, were organized by IGDB scientists. In addition, ten graduate students attended the annual meeting in Japan sponsored by the Nara Institute of Sciences and Technology. In 2015, the foundation laying ceremony of CAS Genetic Resources Research Center (South) was held at the Changzhou National Industrial Park. We signed a strategic collaboration agreement with China National Seed Group Corporations. The collaborative research agreement on biotechnology and molecular crop breeding is renewed between our institute and DuPont Pioneer. Twelve crop varieties and patents were transferred to contribute to the national economy.
Finally, I would like to thank our sponsors and funding agencies for their enormous supports as well as our staff and students for making this year very exciting and successful.
